Chlorhexidine gluconate is a colorless or light yellow almost transparent and slightly viscous liquid; odorless or almost odorless. This product is miscible with water and dissolved in ethanol. Relative density: 1.060~1.070g/ml (25℃).

Purpose


Disinfectant and antiseptic, has a fairly strong broad-spectrum bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects, and is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Disinfect external hands and skin, and rinse the wound.

 

 

Identify


(1) Take 1ml of this product, add 40ml of water, cool it in an ice bath, add 20% sodium hydroxide solution dropwise,
Add dropwise and stir to pH 12~13, add 1 ml more, filter, wash the precipitate with water until it becomes neutral, take the precipitate, add 70% ethanol.


The solution was recrystallized, dried at 105°C, and determined according to the law (page 15 of the appendix of the second volume of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, 1990 edition), the melting point was 129~134°C, decomposes at the same time when melting;


(2) Take 0.5ml of this product, add 10ml of water, and add 0.5ml of copper sulfate test solution to form a precipitate, boil to make the precipitate agglomerate, Immediately lavender;


(3) Take 0.5ml of this product, add 10ml of water and 0.5ml of ferric chloride test solution, slowly heat it to boiling, it will show deep orange red, Add 1ml of hydrochloric acid to turn yellow;


(4) Take 0.05ml of this product, 5ml of heated 1% cetyltrimethylammonium bromide solution, add bromine test solution and hydroxide Sodium test solution of 1ml each, that is dark red.
