Chemical properties:
Two salts can be formed by interaction with hydrogen chloride; HCONHCH3·HCl was formed in a non-polar solvent. (HCONHCH3)2·HCl is formed in the absence of solvent. It has little interaction with sodium metal at room temperature. Hydrolysis occurs in response to an acid or base. The acid hydrolysis rate is formamide > n-methylformamide >N, n-dimethylformamide. The rate of alkaline hydrolysis is formamide-n-methylformamide >N, n-dimethylformamide.
